Biography

Agostino Bonalumi was born on July 10, 1935 in Vimercate, Milan. After studying technical and mechanical drawing, he became a self-taught artist. However, in the late summer of 2013, during the height of his exhibition, he died on September 18 in Monza. His works are kept at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Turin and the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, the Mart in Rovereto, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, among others. The Mazzoleni gallery represents the Agostino Bonalumi Estate.

Works 

<Bianco> is one of Agostino Bonalumi's most famous works, and one that particularly exemplifies his unique style and aesthetic philosophy. "Bianco" means "white" in Italian. The artist is known for creating curved shapes, either painted or sculptural, on white or cream-colored canvas. These white works, with their sharply protruding canvases, are significant in that they reject the flatness of the canvas, making it three-dimensional and using monochromatic tones to go beyond Encaustic Expressionism.These forms are one of the most prominent features of Bonalumi's work and play a large role in identifying his artistic style. The lines formed by slotting into the surface of the canvas create light and shadow, creating an intense visual effect and aesthetic experience in the work.
Through the combination of color and form, Bonalumi tries to convey an emotional and affective experience to the viewer through his works. His works explore important aspects of contemporary art through the exploration of emotion and beauty. For this reason, Bianco is particularly important among Agostino Bonalumi's works and plays a key role in understanding and appreciating his artistic legacy.
